Programming

Programming applications or games is a form of art, many different skills come together to complete an application. Although programming is at the heart of a program, it's not the only part that makes for the look and feel of a good program. Now graphics plays a huge part and with 3d games, 3d modeling comes into play. This along with music and sound affects makes for a potpourri of skills and abilities needed to produce a state of the art game or practically any application imaginable. You'll find links to follow throughout the text .

If your new to programming, don't worry just be careful to pick the correct language for you and stick with it until you are comfortable programming in that language. Being too diverse can lead to great confusion especially to someone new. Be diligent and determined to finish once you start, also pick an application that isn't too complicated to start with. Then move to larger applications as you  become more experienced.

C and C++   is the languages most games and the majority of programs are wrote in because of speed of C and controllability of C++. Most all the games  on this site will be written with these languages. Click on picture above for more info on Microsoft's Visual C++ Standard Edition (used by most programmers!).

The hardest part of accomplishing anything in life is getting started and even harder yet is to finish what we started. I can't start something for you and sure can't finish what you start, so it's up to the individual  to be determined and diligent enough to program and finish a project.

Although many books exist on programming games the favorite and I believe the best one to start with is one of (if not all of) Andre Lamothe's books on game programming. He writes where you can understand what's going and gives code to follow, that explains what he's showing you. Click Here to find out more : Andre Lamothe (Andre also covers Direct X !)

Direct X is used extensively in game programming and a subject which can not be avoided. You need to have the runtime files, on your computer required just to run Direct X. And the complete download of the Direct X SDK (Software Development Kit) to be able to utilize Direct X in your games. Direct X

Just an introduction, more pages will be added giving a starting point and a direction to take. This is just a short introduction to game programming. More will be added as time permits. Look for links in the text of these pages to find out more.
